Cosplay

A fan favorite at every anime convention, the Cosplay is central to the fun!  Animazement's most-attended contest is the Saturday night Cosplay! Come out and see the best costumes and skits our attendees have to offer, and find out who will win the top prizes!  Costumes are not required to be a part of the audience, so if your sewing skills aren't up to the task, you can still enjoy the show.   Be sure to read up on our Event Line System to make sure you get a seat!

Are You A Cosplayer?

Enter the Cosplay Contest and show off your costume in front of thousands of screaming fangirls and fanboys!  Read on for more details on how to become a part of the Cosplay Contest, and don't forget to read our Cosplay Contest Rules!

How It Works:

Cosplay Registration:Animazement 2008. Photo by Gary Moe. Used with permission.

We can only accept a limited number of contest entries. Participation in the cosplay is on a first come, first served basis. People who register on Saturday morning will be given priority over those who register Saturday night.

Saturday morning registration for the cosplay contest will be at 9:00 a.m. in Track 5 (Room 302c).

Anyone who misses the 9:00 a.m. registration session may register in the cosplay preparation room on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., for as long as there are spaces available.

However, registering Saturday morning does not guarantee your place in the contest. Your best chance of being in the cosplay is to register Saturday morning, and arrive with your entire group at the cosplay preparation room as close to 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening as possible.

For those of you who have been asking if you can be given time during the cosplay to perform a musical number, the answer is yes, but only if setting up for your performance and performing and taking everything back off the stage will take two minutes or less. We will enforce this time limit. Register your performance as a standard cosplay skit.

Competition categories:

The Cosplay Contest is divided into three categories:
Cosplay Competition Categories
Junior A contestant who is under the age of 13.
Novice A contestant who has never won an award in competition.
Veteran A contestant who has won at least one award at an anime convention.
Each skit will be awarded only one prize total, unless it also receives a judge's favorite award.

Competition prizes:

  • Novice - This category offers three prizes: first - third place
  • Veteran - This category offers six prizes: first - fifth place, plus Honorable Mention
  • Best in Show - one overall winner
  • Judges' Favorite - additional prizes awarded by individual judges to their favorite skits
