Cosplay

A fan favorite at every anime convention, the Cosplay is central to the fun!  Animazement's most-attended contest is the Saturday night Cosplay! Come out and see the best costumes and skits our attendees have to offer, and find out who will win the top prizes!  Costumes are not required to be a part of the audience, so if your sewing skills aren't up to the task, you can still enjoy the show.   Be sure to read about our spankin' new Cosplay Lineup system to make sure you get a seat!

Are You A Cosplayer?

Enter the Cosplay Contest and show off your costume in front of thousands of screaming fangirls and fanboys!  Read on for more details on how to become a part of the Cosplay Contest, and don't forget to read our Cosplay Contest Rules!

How It Works:

The Cosplay Contest is one of the largest events at Animazement.  Our goal is to start on time, and keep this event within its time constraints.  We ask that all those wishing to participate in the Cosplay Contest adhere to the more precise scheduling and commitment that this event warrants.

Information Meeting - Friday 5:00pm (Autograph Room)

Those interested in participating in Animazement’s Cosplay Contest on Saturday evening are requested to attend this information meeting.  Topics to be covered will include application forms, requirements for participation, as well as the schedule leading up to Saturday's contest will be addressed.  The Cosplay Contest is limited to 40 entries, issued on a first-come, first-served basis.  All unclaimed entries will be carried over to Saturday's Orientation Meeting.  Application forms can be filled out at this meeting, and left with a Cosplay Representative for safe keeping (advised).  Applicants will also receive a skit introduction form, which must be filled out prior to the Saturday Orientation Meeting.

Participants are advised to prepare any music or other audio materials that will be used during their skit in advance of the convention.  Entrants will be required to turn in burned audio CDs containing their audio materials during the Orientation Meeting.  Requirements for the format and content of these CDs are included in our Cosplay Contest Rules.

Orientation Meeting (Mandatory) - Saturday 9:00am - 12:00 noon (Room 301-A)

This meeting must be attended by all individual cosplayers, or at least one representative of a group.  Applicants who did not attend the Friday Information Meeting and are beginning the Cosplay Contest registration process will be asked to sign in on the standby list.

Pre-collected application forms will be used to conduct roll call.  Completed applications may be submitted at this time, if they were not handed in during Friday's Information Meeting.  Applicants not present by the end of roll call will be regarded as uninterested, thereby opening up their entry slot for others.  If an applicant arrives late, after the completion of roll call, they will be allowed to sign up on the standby list in order to remain in the process.  Applications for those on the standby list will then be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applicants will then be processed, beginning with a review of their application.  Processing will be done according to categories.  If an entry is rejected for any reason, their slot will be opened up.  Available entry slots will be filled in order from the standby list.  Upon approval, entrants will be given an order number, which will indicate the order of their presentation within their category during the Cosplay Contest.

Once an order number has been issued, approved entrants will be instructed to advance to the next representative, who will collect and approve their skit introduction form.

Any entrant who will be utilizing music for their skit will then be directed to the audio station to turn in their burned audio CD.  Any recording that is to be used during a cosplay skit must be presented at this Orientation Meeting.  No music will be accepted after the 12:00 noon cut-off time.  Contents of the CD will be placed on the audio director’s equipment in the order of participation within each category.  All audio will be tested.  Audio CDs must conform to the specifications outlined in our Cosplay Rules, and will not be returned.

All of the information pertaining to each contest entry will be placed in a packet containing the application form, skit introduction form, and the audio CD (if applicable).

Cosplay Contest entrants are not required to remain present for the entire 3-hour block.  Once you or your group has been processed, you are free to leave.  If you have any questions pertaining to the evening's activities, a Cosplay Representative will be available to answer them.

Any changes must be made before the noon deadline.  At the close of the Saturday Orientation Meeting (12:00 noon), no further applications will be accepted.  While the deleting of a group participant is not a problem, no group additions, audio changes, or other modifications to a skit can be made after this deadline.

Cosplay Contest - Saturday 7:30pm Ballroom A (Room 401-A)

One hour prior to the Cosplay Contest, all entrants are to assemble in the designated staging area (to be announced at the Orientation Meeting).  Entrants will be grouped according to category. Entrants will be staged and presented in this order:
  1. Junior Category
  2. Novice Category
  3. Veteran Category
Entrants will be lined up according to their order number given during the Orientation Meeting.  As each number is called, participants will go to a pre-staging area in preparation to be next on stage.   Upon the completion of their skit, cosplayers will be directed to a post-staging area to be seated and await the judges' award decisions.
