You may have noticed some changes around here. We'd like to take the opportunity to let you know what's going on.
The Technical Stuff:
It's been a few years since animazement.org's hardware and software were upgraded, so we took the plunge and upgraded both. In order to move to our hosting company's new setup, we had to upgrade our forum software from phpBB2 to phpBB3. Our team of code monkeys did their very best to make the transition as smooth as we could, but there are always some hiccups when making complicated changes. We are listening to your suggestions and will continue working to keep our sites fun and functional.
The Philosophical Stuff:
Some other changes were made to meet two of our goals:
1) Separating official from unofficial information
2) Democratizing the forum
Official news and announcements will always be posted our on website. It's fine to ask general questions and get advice on our forums from other attendees and staff, but the official word will always be posted on our website. Animazement is a growing convention, and it's sometimes difficult for all of our staff members to know everything that's happening! Our staff members always try their very best to give you the latest and most accurate information on our forums, but despite their best efforts, sometimes inaccurate information gets out. So, as always, everyone, including staff, is free to post on our forums. But on the forums, our staff represent only themselves, not the official word from Animazement. That is why our staff are no longer labeled as staff on the forums. If you can't find the answer to your question on our website, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will respond to you. If your question could benefit others, please also CC email@example.com and we will address the missing information.
Our vision for this forum is a place where everyone can discuss anime and Animazement freely, and where everyone is equal. So whether you're a longtime attendee or a brand-new fan, whether you have 0 posts or 10,000+, everyone has the right to participate freely on the forum. If you'd like to discuss topics that you wouldn't want everyone to see, please use the private message function, or take your discussion elsewhere. In the interests of free speech, we don't want to do a lot of moderating. So, we expect everyone to be polite and use your best judgment. In turn, you can expect a lot of freedom here.
What If I Need A Moderator?
Longtime Animazement staffer, BobD, will be our forum's global moderator. Please address any comments, questions, or concerns about forum behavior to him. The global administrator account, Forum Admin, is a requirement of the forum software and exists only to maintain the forum software and address any technical issues. *This is a non-posting account*. If you are having a specific technical issue, please email a detailed problem report to firstname.lastname@example.org.
But I Don't Like It!
Invariably, some people don't like change and would rather take their ball and go home. Unfortunately, some things simply had to be changed due to the upgrade from the old forum software. But rest assured, no forums, accounts, or posts were, or will be, deleted. We understand that the forum is important to you, and it is our intention to continue providing it, with as little administrative interference as possible. If you don't like our new look, we've given you a few options for skinning your forum experience (available under User Control Panel -> Board Preferences). If you miss the old look and feel terribly, we suggest switching to the SubSilver2 style. The theme for Animazement 13 is J-Horror, but we haven't gone goth for good! We plan to revamp the website and forum annually to reflect our yearly theme. Our goal is to maintain all the functionality you're used to, and you can look forward to even more in the future. We appreciate your patience as we grow into our new setup.
We also realize that not everyone shares our vision about what this forum should be. We hope that everyone will put their differences aside, and continue to enjoy connecting with friends and other fans here as they always have. To those that choose to leave, thank you for supporting the Animazement Fan Forum, and we wish you all the best. We hope to see everyone at Animazement 2010!
