Anime/Manga RecommendationsModerator: BobD Anime/Manga RecommendationsOnce one shows interest anime/manga it is a bit of a daunting task to pick an anime/manga to watch/read. Before I had someone who I trusted to recommend anime/manga, I watched some pretty horrible stuff based on what was popular at the time. This is a place for people to recommend anime/manga for new fans and old.
Rules 1) No spoilers whatsoever. Not even if you make it in white text and quote box it. This is a complete spoiler free zone. 2) You can not negate anyone's suggestion. You can only posts your personal recommendations. (Instilled due to the fact that anime fans have strong opinions about what is good and what is bad, and they tend to argue about it.) This is not a discussion thread. Just post the name of the anime/manga and an original, short description about said anime/manga. If you just want to post what anime you are watching currently without writing a description please post it here. If you just want to post what manga you are currently reading without writing a description please post it here. Last edited by kawaii-ness on Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:03 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I suggest Peacemaker Kurogane. Because it is just that awesome.
Without giving away too much, a young kid tries to join the Shinsengumi during the last part of the Tokugawa Era and, as he works for them, he discovers what it takes to become a soldier. ![]()
Kuroshitsuji
It's set in Victorian england and is about a young lord named Ciel who has a Demon as his butler. Very interesting, I highly reccomend it. Cosplays 2012: Tuxedo Mask (Sailor Moon)- 95% fixing the mask, getting real buttons. Maybe sexier jacket?
Charlotte Elbourne (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust)- 5% New! Jessica Rabbit (Who Framed Roger Rabbit)-6% I ordered the shoes and have the makeup. Now for the hard parts... Terror squad 26nd seat & Co-captian of T.S.B.C.[pm me or Kristyhimura to join] Red Team: Lopez; Honorary maid at the Maid Cafe "Don't believe in yourself! Believe in the Kyaroru who believes in you!" -Nathan Cross
Generator Gawl
Two scientists and a powerful generator named Gawl travel through time from the 22nd century to try to change history at the risk of destroying their future existence. Unfortunately, there are other sinister forces who want history to stay on the track. It's one of the few mecha anime that I really enjoy. It's got humor, heartbreak, and lots of action. I recommend watching the sub because the English dub changes a lot of the words, which also changes a bit of the plot. I've never heard of an anime doing something like that!
Vandread. It is a 26 episode comedy set in space. Men are on one planet, women are on another, and they are at war. A few men are captured by some women pirates. Neither gender knowing how to interact with each other. Comedy ensues. It is a basically uplifting with a few sad points. The sad points are very well done. This is a show that has a few twists that take you by surprise and the conclusion is satisfyingly.

Kaleido Star (Including New Wings)
A two season anime taking place in America. A young girl travels all the way from Japan to become a star on a stage known as the Kaleido stage. She wants to join and become a star and have fun! Sora wants to make her dreams come true. But along the way many other performers come along to try to stop her and others. I liked this alot, even though it kinda sounds like many others with her wanting to fufil her dream its actully fairly different. Fun and exciting to watch, keeps you on your toes. Gokusen.
It's hilarious. It's basically about a Yakuza (Japanese Mafia) heiress who wants to be a teacher and ends up teaching at a school for all male delinquents. It's really funny (but it does has dirty humor, just a warning). AZ '12 plans: Garrus Vakarian- Mass Effect [Confirmed]
Me: Go team GOOOOOOO!!!!!Little Brother: What? Team Rambo??
Damekko Doubutsu.
There's nothing cuter than a forest of useless animals (humans in animal suits that I can't say are furries. They're cute though.) Seat 40 ![]()
Nabari No Ou
It was recently licensed by Funimation, which I just found out while looking for information to post here. It's a 26 episode anime, so it's not overly long. It's about ninjas, and they are so much cooler than Naruto ninjas. The anime is based off of the manga, Nabari No Ou, which Yen Press has the rights to in America. Taken from Anime News Network: The story revolves around Miharu Rokujō, a seemingly ordinary middle school boy whose body possesses an "Omnipotent" (Shinra Banshō) power from a hidden ninja world. Miharu discovers that he is being protected by two Banten ninja — who happen to be his English teacher Kumohira Tobari Durandal and his classmate Kōichi Aizawa. A 14-year-old female samurai named Raimei Shimizu is also watching his back. Meanwhile, the Iga Gray Wolf Pack is hunting Miharu down for his power. Edit: I'm not good at descriptions, so I borrowed ANN's description Last edited by Lheage on Thu Mar 19, 2009 6:18 pm, edited 2 times in total.

I suggest Darker than Black. Here is the plot summery from Anime News Network:
In Tokyo, an impenetrable field known as "Hell's Gate" appeared ten years ago. At the same time, psychics who wield paranormal powers at the cost of their conscience also emerged. Hei is one of the most powerful of these psychic agents, and along with his blind associate, Yin, works for one of the many rival agencies vying to unlock the mysteries of Hell's Gate. Squad 14: Fukutaicho *I'm a GIRL!!!!*

\ Aderyn stole my recommendation. Shadow Follower, Chaist Cookie Minion, Blue Team: Tex, Terror Squad Taicho
Free Hugs! AZ '11 Cosplay - Mint (Threads of Fate) - Nino (Arakawa under the Bridge) - Mayaya (Kuragehime)
For those new to anime, FullMetal Alchemist.
It has everything - including manga and a movie. It's especially appealing because you get the kids, the military, the secrets, the alchemy, the boy as a suit of armor, a real plot with humor and angst, lots of surprises and no two characters look alike - you can always tell who is who!. The music is great (L'Arc En Ciel & Porno Graffitti), and the animation is excellent (clean and bright). Katharine
I second this 1000 times. WATCH IT D:< Seat 40 ![]()
I will also recommend Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok. It's made of win and awesome. Once again, here is the plot summery from ANN:
Loki, the Norse god of mischief, has been exiled to the human world for what was apparently was a bad joke. Along with being exiled, he’s forced to take the form of a child. He’s told the only way he can get back to the world of the gods is if he can collect auras of evil that take over human hearts, and so to do this he runs a detective agency. Loki is soon joined by a human girl named Mayura who is a maniac for mysteries, and she soon helps out in her own way. However, soon other Norse gods begin to appear, and most have the intent to assassinate Loki for reasons unclear. Squad 14: Fukutaicho *I'm a GIRL!!!!*

For those who are mecha junkies, I also suggest Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure.
It's a little known, short, series that I saw a couple years back. I can't really remember all the plot details, but there's harem, mecha and something about two different dimensions. Check it out. ![]()
I agree, Domekko Doubbutsu is A+ stuff... "Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction where ever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that."
- Col. Tigh / Battlestar Galactica
Just because im currently watching it and enjoying TONS!
Skip Beat! Girl secretly is childhood friends and lives with a popular male Idol singer. And then the fun starts! 'The Crazed McDonalds Ninja' & Terror Squad 46th Seat: Resident Contract Assassin

I'd also recommend any of the Gundam from the Universal Century timeline. They all end in such tragedy, or on such a down note. It's nice to watch Anime that doesn't leave you feeling all nice and bubbly inside. Anime that makes you feel dirty and violated...
Gundam 0080 Gundam 0083 "Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction where ever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that."
