Skits??

Postby Mikay » Sun Apr 08, 2012 4:43 pm

Will there be something going on this year that will allow people to register to preform a skit??

I really want to preform one and think it'd be a lot of fun to do so as another form of entertainment for people.

You mean the cosplay contest/masquerade? Yeah that's going on again, doubt AZ would get rid of it randomly. XD
Usually theres a meeting Friday that you go to to see what you need to do/fill out, turn it in either than or Saturday at the following meeting. Just meet all the rules and you'll be fine.

No, not the contest, just skits. :<

Like, how people can sign up and do a short play or whatever with lines and music and stuff.

A lot of cons do it, but wasn't sure of AZ is.

I'm pretty sure it is that. That's what we do when we do the skits at the contest. XD
This is what your talking about right? Things like these two:

The skits are preformed at the contest to either be judged or not.

yes, that's what I mean! :D
Sorry, I didn't know they were the same thing. xD

I don't really wanna be judged on mine, just to have fun. :D

But yes! That is what I mean. ^ ^ Do I have to pre-register for doing this??

Yes, you'll have to do the steps I posted above or it'll be close to that.

What if you can't attend the meeting? :( Can't you just fill out the paperwork and email it back??

It's Friday at con... There's the second meeting Saturday like I'd said, that one is mandatory if you want to do a skit. The Friday is usually optional. Costume Craftsmanship is the online online one.

Best to look over this:

Oh...oh god. xD

Please forgive me for being so out of it.

I'm obviously more tired from the triad Anime Convention then I thought. xD

After rereading your post you're making perfect sense. xD

Okay, so I'll just fill the paperwork out the Friday of the con then. >w<

I know this has already been answered, but is there no way they can extend a skit?

I just wanna do a simple lip syncing to a song while acting out on the stage, but the song is 3 minutes long. >w<

Nope, they'll cut the audio off if you go over so you'll have to try to find a shortened version or shorten it yourself.

QAQ
I was able to shorten it a lot, but it's still 10 seconds over the 2 minute line.
Is there no way they'd still allow it? TTATT

As soon as they make an exception for one person, everyone will want an exception. I don't think they'll do it, unfortunately. It's a difficult job to make sure the whole con runs on schedule, and while ten seconds might not be a long time, when you add on extra time for every skit, it adds up.

When I did the Kefka Voltaire skit, I came in at just two minutes. I did that by shortening the song to only the first two verses, cutting the beginning instrumental and shortening the bridge between the verses. It's possible to cut several seconds and still have it sound good.

Yeah, they're usually pretty consistent with cutting people off if they go over. Although if you talk to the emcee before your skit, you can get a few seconds over if you really really really need them. But definitely practice beforehand to get your timing right. If you can't get almost all of your skit done in about two minutes, you'll have to do some cutting.

Good luck! As a former skit participant, it's really fun to do skits :)

Yeah, I cut all the intramental to just and even the forst verse to just have the second verse, but there's no way to cut more. It still hols there at 2 minutes and 10 seconds.

:\
Maybe I can find another song, it's just this one was so perfect, lol.

As a former cosplay MC, I can tell you that the folks running it are not completely heartless and they'll probably give you a few extra seconds if you need 'em. On the other hand, if you can trim things down to the 120 time limit, you won't have to worry about being the skit they decide to make an example of, with the lights and music cut completely just at the finale of your song. So, yeah, see if you can shave a bit more and if you're five seconds over or what have you, talk to the MC and see what y'all can work out.
I'm not sure what's going on here, but have you watched any of these Japaheeno guns-and-hooters cartoon movies?
