Hunter x Hunter Cosplay 2013

Postby GoPikachu » Sat Feb 09, 2013 2:10 pm

Hello everyone,

Seeing as Hunter x Hunter's 2011 remake has been doing quite well recently and is still on going, I wondered if any fans would be cosplaying this year?
If so, who are you cosplaying as?

I'll be going as York New arc Kurapika, along with my friend who might possibly going as Machi.
Hopefully we will get to see some Phantom Troupe members there.
Any Spiders willing to allow me to casually chain you up? =) Haha

Please share your Hunter x Hunter cosplay ideas and plans! Always nice to talk with a fellow fan.

(I didn't see any topics for this series yet, so sorry if I overlooked one.)

I've been thinking about cosplaying Shizuku lately (no guarantees), but even if I can't I hope I bump into you!

My friend confirmed she will in fact be cosplaying as Machi, so if you do decide to cosplay as Shizuku
you won't be alone.
I'm pretty sure if you wander around calling out Kurapika's name you should run into us. Haha
That's normally how I do it at conventions. It annoys everyone, but I always find the character I'm looking for.

I have Genei Ryoudan Kurapika, and eventually gonna do Kurapika from his childhood...I'm redoing the chain for ACen, so I should have it done by this con. Not sure if I'm bringing him though (still deciding cosplay, so checking out the forums, lol)

My Kurapica is like ancient though..XD but he got revived with the anime revival, lol.

Oh cool. I've not really seen many childhood Kurapika cosplays online.
If you do decide on cosplaying as him I hope we run into each other. I'd love to see your costume.
Hey, either way, I hope we run into each other.

I started to wonder if anyone else was really going to cosplay from Hunter x Hunter due to the lack of replies. Since the anime was remade I thought it would have a spark in popularity.
Guess I'll find out for sure when I get to the convention. =)

Yeah, I revived my Kura-chan cosplay back like Oct 2011 cause of the remake, and it was so-so..but I just found out a group of friends are going to ACen and they basically have Gon, Hisoka, Killua, and Leorio, so they asked me to get pics with them. I totally fangirled XD

Well, regardless, if you are there in in HxH garb, be prepared to be attack. It's one of my fave series *v*

Now they have the movie out, although I don't think American fans have gotten their hands on it yet. Maybe next year we will get to see some more Hunter x Hunter cosplays due to the movie. According to what I've read it has done very well in theaters in Japan.

Oh my gosh. I can completely understand why you fangirled over that! Good reason to revive the costume too.

I'll be prepared~ Being attacked (with fandom love) is part of every convention. It wouldn't be the same without it.
Hunter x Huter is one of my favorites - if not my number one favorite. It's kinda become an obsession, so I hope to meet other who appreciate it as much. haha

haha, yeaah, I alreayd got like all the merchandise from the movie, including one of the display scrolls *totes not obsessed*

I wouldn't consider it my top fave, but it's one of those series that I've consistently liked since I first found it back in like... pre 2000...so yeaaah...XD

Gah, I'm so jealous. I'm hanging on the edge of my seat for the movie along with merchandise. I've not gotten around to getting any of that.

It's understandable why it wouldn't be a top favorite considering there are a lot of incredibly amazing anime out there and it's been a while since it was first released. So much has happened in the anime world since then.
I'm a newer fan, but it was love at first site with the series.

Being able to type Japanese is pretty handy XD I got them from Japanese auctions for the most part, but had to have them shipped through someone in Japan. Some of them I just happened upon on Ebay. But I need more. Cause I'm insane XD

It's one of those series that holds up well with time though. and for me, it has such great memories XD and I've only seen the first anime series like...7 times...(completely, some of the earlier stuff I've watched so much it's ridiculous). The newer one i'm only once on right now...so far...XD

That would be incredibly handy. I've not seen much aside from advertisements for merchandise, which I couldn't read due to it being in Japanese, and a few things on eBay.
I figured it would take some deep digging to get it here in the US, though. What you said proved exactly that, too.

Having the memories that go along with an anime is what makes it all the more special.
I don't know how many times I've watched the 1999 Hunter x Hunter now. As a guess.. probably around four to five.
I've seen the 2011 twice now because of my mom. She was interested in watching it with me since she hadn't seen it.

Not sure how unlikely it's going to be, but I'm really hoping there is a Shalnark cosplayer there.. I have a bit of an interest in him for some reason. He is my anime crush, I suppose.

I'm one of those people though that wants something, I gets it. I actually had HxH vol 0 lined up before I did that, however the seller who said they had it for me (I bought lots of SAO novels from them, so they're pretty friendly), STILL has never given me the invoice on it, so I was like screw it, got both that and the movie book for $30...not complaining XD

Lol, yeah, i watch it all the time with friends...once I finish Buffy with another friend, she's gonna watch the new one with me, since she was the third time i watched the old one. I got her excited about the movie by accident...my books came in, but I had to go pick them up from the post on the way to her house, so I opened them there, and then we fangirled. Was great though.

Shalnark is my fave Genei <3 me and another friend use his name as a verb, shouting randomly at each other "I Shalnark you!" his power is really interesting, too. Can't wait til they do more with it like they did in the manga~

Right now I just discovered a used bookstore selling incredibly cheap anime and manga. Saving up for the convention is hard due to that. I keep wanting to buy more. Of course they don't have anything new and fresh out of Japan, but I can't argue with two dollar manga.
Their anime prices are decent as well considering I got a seventeen dollar box set. Used, but in good condition.
It's the same feeling I get from finding deals on eBay. I tell myself I'm on a budget, so I buy cheap things... the catch? I buy a ton of cheap things and go over budget. Haha

Normally I watch an anime and have my mom watch it with me a second time, which is good because all the things I missed the first time watching are cleared up. Also, it's always fun watching it with someone else.
I've been spreading the news of Hunter x Hunter to my friends. So far I have one hooked, which is my friend who is going to the convention with me as Machi.

That's great! It's so refreshing to see another Shal fan. He is truly under appreciated.
I have to ask, how did you and your friend come up with that inside joke?

I'm lucky that where I live (near Chicago) we have a whole Japanese marketplace, including a bookstore. And their rewards program is awesome <3 So I get all of my stuff there. and then we have an anime shop closer to me (I actually live in IN), which the guy there loves me. He usually gives me like 50% off on stuff, and when he goes to Japan, if he sees stuff he thinks I'll like, he picks them up for me. Lots of dounjinshi and novels I never thought about *v* Yeaah, I go over budget so easily when I go to those places though...(which reminds me, I hafta go pick up a figure for my big sis at the anime shop, this is gonna suck, just got paid XD )

My mom and I watch some things together, but we don't have a lot of open time together right now, and plus our set up right now is horrid to watch anime, so we generally just watch stuff she DVRs. I love watching stuff with other peopel though, always better~ Oooh, cool~

Lol, we are seriously nuts XD it was actually me having a slip of tongue though. When I deal with Japanese too much, sometimes my English slips. I was actually trying to say somethinng about Shalnark's fighting skills, and instead it came out as "He Shalnarks everyone to manipulate them" or something like that. She loved it though, so now we use it alot XD

There isn't anything remotely like that around here. I live in a farming community and anything like a bookstore is a good drive from here.
If I want something it's normally ordered online.

I can completely understand why you would go over budget with a store like that and with 50% off.
Must be easy to become like a kid in a candy store. =)

Watching things with others is always great... except when the person talks all the way through it and then ask you to explain what just happened in the entire episode. haha I've tried to sit down with friends to watch anime and that has happened quite a few times.

Haha I knew it had to be an accident in the conversation of some sort. That is pretty funny.
I'm not entirely sure if I can contain my fandom if I see a cosplayer of him.. It could result in me walking up to a complete stranger and asking for his hand in marriage.

That's the plus side of living near Chicago, lol. We have a pretty large Japanese community here. but online ordering isn't bad either, and sometimes easier to find deals.

Yeah, I try to only go to that store when they have the cosplay events. I usually run their karaoke, so gotta bethere anyways XD but easier not to buy when I'm busy.

LOL, well...I do talk the entire time I watch things, depending on who it is. Althought usually we are talking about the thing, so we aren't missing things XD we watch everything with subtitles though, regardless of the language!

Well, I've been proposed to 7 times total at cons, and I propsed once to the first girl who recognized me cosplayed as my webcomic character. Cons are great XD I sorta go nuts whenever I see people from my obscure fandoms though X3

I'm lucky to make it to Walmart, let alone a store like that. The convention isn't terribly far from me, though. Animazement is just three hours.
It's the closest to me aside from smaller conventions.

Buying is hard when you're busy, yes. Unless you're busy buying.. haha

I am notorious for making constant remarks on the show I'm watching.. and spoilers. So I have no right to complain.
However, my cats make watching shows difficult..
Can't see with a cat's butt blocking the screen.

I've been married once at a convention and proposed to a couple of times. It was a last minute thrown together pretend wedding that was quite funny.
Conventions do tend to bring out the fan craziness (in a good way) in people, don't they? I love it.
You have a webcomic?

For me, Animazement is 13 hrs, not including the fact that I lose an hour (I live in the part of IN that's on Central timezone, unlike the rest of the state XD ). But I do have a lot of conventions in the area at least.

hahah yeaaah XD

I try not to spoil stuff if I've already seen it, but often times, my friends who will keep asking me bout what's going to happen so then, urg, it's so hard not to XD HAHAH yeah, one of my cats is quite an attention whore, so she'll be all up in your face when you're trying to watch things.

That's the fun of conventions though~ all the insanity that ensues, haha XD Yeah, it's been going for like...well, will be 7 years in June XD but it's still pretty unknown, so when people recognize it, I go a bit insane XD but it's also my baby so yeaah XD

I know a lot of people drive incredibly far distances for this convention. Animazement is getting pretty big, after all. That's why quite often my friends are long distance. Which is kinda cool because it's like a reunion at every convention and it makes it more special.

I don't understand why they ask what happens next! Annnnddd I always end up telling what happens. What ever happened to surprise?
Cats just can't grasp the concept of humans and their shows. Cats are probably thinking, "How come that light up box is more interesting than me? Pet me~"

I've not been to a convention in quite some time. I went to one in Charlotte last year because it was within my budget, but for quite some time I haven't been able to afford it. Fortunately this year worked itself out.

I'd really like to see your webcomic sometime! =)

I've been attending AZ since...um...2006? We went the first year cause of one of the guests, that and it was a highschool grad present to me. But we've been hooked, and I did so well in AA, it was worth coming back. But yeah, there are a lot of friends I have I only get to see at AZ, too.

LOL! I knooow! It's like just shut up and watch! But no, they ask, and if you tell them, they get mad IF you actually tell them, but mad if you don't...*shakes head* Hahha, yeah, that's my cat Moko. ANYTHING that takes attention from her she just gets in the way of. My lil cat, Yumeko hates my phone, cause when I wake up in the morning I check txts and FB, so she's always jealous. and my big cat Koneko...he just sits on you and squashes you, hard to ignore that...

My next con, in April, will be my 100th con XD I do cons a lot. I had two in January (both local, thankfully, and one only one day), but got a break now. But clearly, I do them a lot. But it's a subsidary income for me (plus dang fun)

Well, it's online, OBVIOUSLY. Here: Zos Kias I have a love/hate relationship with it lol
