Additional Overflow Hotels

We have two additional overflow hotels that are offering a convention rate for Animazement 2010! They are the Holiday Inn Brownstone and the Courtyard Raleigh North. The Holiday Inn is located northwest of the Raleigh Convention center, and is about 5 minutes away (2 miles) by car. The Courtyard is north of the convention center, and is about ten minutes away (5 miles) by car. While both of these hotels offer free parking, you will need to drive to and find parking near the Convention Center.

Convention rates are available Friday and Saturday evenings, but you can probably get convention rates for Thursday and Monday nights also, if you ask. Parking at these hotels is free. These rates are only guaranteed through May 7, 2010, after which the hotel will accept reservations at this rate subject to availability.

To reserve a room and get the convention rates, you must call the hotels at the numbers provided above, and identify yourself as part of the Animazement group (Educational Growth Across the Ocean is the official group name if there are any questions.) These hotels require the use of a credit/debit card to hold your room.

The official hotel for Animazement is the Raleigh Marriott® City Center. Located directly across Fayetteville St. from the Raleigh Convention Center, the Marriott is seconds away from all of the Animazement festivities! If that weren't enough, it's actually connected to the convention center by an underground tunnel!

Reserving A Hotel Room

Convention rates for Animazement 2010 at the Raleigh Marriott® City Center will be $104 per night (plus tax).

To reserve a room and get the convention rates:

Online: Connect to the Marriott® Website and begin the reservation process online. Just below the boxes where you fill in the check-in and check-out dates, be sure to expand the “+Special Rates and Awards” by clicking on the “+” sign. Once this section is expanded, fill in the group code box with EGAEGAA to get the special convention rate. If you forget to do this on the first screen you can enter the group code on the second screen titled “Select Rates Step 2 of 6”. Do not finalize your reservation without entering the group code!

By Phone: If you prefer to reserve by phone call 1-800-228-9290. The Animazement code for phone reservations is EGA. If the reservations agent is having trouble with the group code, try telling them it is associated with “Educational Growth Across Oceans” which is the official non-profit organization sponsoring Animazement.

Reservation Notes

• Be sure you understand the difference between “guaranteed” and “requested” when you make a request for a type of room and what appears on your final confirmation email. If you are guaranteed a double room then most likely that is what you will get at check-in. However, if your reservation confirmation indicates “requested” it means that as long as doubles are available you’ll get one, but if not, you’ll get a King. The hotel has a mix of double and King bed rooms, so not everyone will get the type of room requested. The earlier you check in, the better the chances are of getting what you requested. If you can’t get a double bed room you might want to request a rollaway bed (additional fee) just in case.
• Regardless of how you make your reservation, the hotel requires the use of a credit/debit card to hold your room.
• If a parent, friend, or some other third party will be paying for your room at check-out, please download and complete this Marriott form along with a copy of the cardholder’s drivers license. Then either fax it in or have it with you at check-in along with the drivers license copy. It will save you a lot of time and trouble if you complete this in advance.
• If you use a debit card at check-in (not when you make the reservation) hotels typically will immediately debit at check-in the total dollar amount of room, tax, and an incidental amount for each night of your stay. Any amount that is authorized and not spent may take up to five business days or longer after your departure to release depending on your bank.

Overflow Hotel - SOLD OUT

The overflow hotel for Animazement is the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel. Located near the Raleigh Convention Center, the Sheraton is just a few steps away from all of the Animazement festivities! It’s right next door to the Marriott and just about as convenient.

Secondary Overflow Hotel - SOLD OUT

The secondary overflow hotel for Animazement is the Clarion Hotel State Capital. This is located about ten blocks north of the Raleigh Convention Center and is only about a fifteen minute walk or a short bus ride. You can take advantage of a new downtown loop bus service, the R-LINE, which runs every 10 to 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 2:15 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. A bus stop is approximately a block from the hotel and will get you to the Raleigh Convention Center. For more information on the R-LINE line go to the R-LINE website or ask the Clarion hotel staff.

Reserving a Hotel Room

The hotel requires the use of a credit/debit card to hold your room.

Miscellaneous Hotel Guidelines

• If you are coming to Animazement by train, both the hotel and the Raleigh Convention Center are located a short walking distance away from the Raleigh Amtrak Station. Despite this, please keep in mind that a short distance feels a lot longer when you're carrying luggage, costumes, and katamari fodder, so factor this into your travel plans.
• Do not dye your hair in your hotel room bathroom. Even temporary dyes are capable of staining expensive hotel property and you will be held accountable for all damages.
• Swimming with proper attire only. If you plan to use the hotel pools, be sure to bring a bathing suit. Swimming in jeans and cutoffs is not allowed. If your hair is dyed, do not go swimming, as it may affect the water and cause the hotel to shut down the pool. This has happened in the past and inconvenienced many others.
• Not all parking is free in downtown Raleigh locations. Refer to the Parking section for additional details. You may want to plan your convention budget accordingly to include parking fees.
• Your car is not a hotel room. Sleeping in your car is illegal, irresponsible, and most importantly it is dangerous. On a lesser note, it means you don't have a shower and you smell awful, so do us all a favor and get a room.
