Art Room Rules

Understanding Intellectual Property

By entering art into the Animazement Art Room, you are agreeing that it is your own original work. We do not accept artwork that is a re-drawn copy of an existing picture. This includes tracing, eyeballing (looking at a picture and re-drawing it without direct tracing), photography, photocopies, or anything else that is not an original production. This does not include PRINTS. See rules below for print stipulations. Your art must be your own work, not a copy of someone else's. Fanart of existing characters is acceptable, but the pose and picture must be your own idea. If the Art Room Staff identify a picture as a copy of an existing work NOT by the submitting artist, the artist will be asked to remove their work and leave without a refund.

Art Room Rules and Policies

1. All prints, paintings and sketches must be able to be hung. Typically hanging is done via binder clips on a hook. Matting and/or framing is suggested both to ensure the work can be hung, and to increase the value it sells for. Sculptures, models and 3-dimensional works must be on stable bases. The Art Room Director will determine if pieces can be hung. Please mark all art with the artist's name and the title of the work.

2. Artwork will not be accepted unless it is ready to display upon arrival.

3. Animazement reserves the right to:
… Limit the number of pieces of art on any one display panel or table
… Refuse works based on their appropriateness and suitability for display.
… Limit the number of pieces displayed by a single artist.
… Cancel an artist's rental, returning all rental fees and artwork.

4. Art space is sold on a first come first serve basis at the convention only. There is no pre-registration for art space. Animazement only collects monies for art space, and does not take a commission from the sale of artwork. Art space rental is due upon the receipt of the artwork.

5. Artwork is sold via a paper auction. Items receiving five (5) bids automatically go to the live art auction. Once an item is going to the live auction, no additional bids will be accepted. Items in the live auction begin bidding at their final paper bid price. Items with less than five (5) bids will be sold for the final bid price. Items created by the guests of honor automatically go to auction, regardless of the number of bids received.

7. Artists should contact the Art Room Director in order to modify their minimum bid price. Minimum Bids may not be modified after any bids have been placed. There is no reserve pricing.

8. Artwork is not to be removed until the Sunday of the convention, unless prior arrangements have been made with the Art Room Director.

9. Animazement and the convention venue will take reasonable security precautions, however there is no assumption of any legal or financial responsibility for artwork on display.

10. Artists are responsible for all taxes and other costs associated with the sale or display of their artwork. Animazement encourages all artists to consult their tax advisers.

11. Art room staff members will place all art on display. Artists should ensure an appropriate amount of space is purchased to display all artwork. The display techniques of the art room staff are not up for discussion and are final. Any non-diplayed artwork must be removed from the art room immediately. Artists may suggest arrangements for their artwork, however these suggestions will be followed at the discretion of the Art Room Director.

12. Artists will be paid for all of their pieces sold only after the buyer has paid for the artwork. Artists will be checked out as soon after the auction as possible. Artists must be present in order to claim any unsold artwork. Any artwork left unclaimed by either the buyer or the artist becomes the property of Animazement, and may be destroyed or resold at Animazement's discretion. Artists are encouraged to be on hand to claim artwork that is left unclaimed by the buyer. Animazement will declare winning bidders no shows no early than 30 minutes after the last event has ended. Animazement is not responsible for ensuring that bidders complete their purchases. Bids are a contract between the artist and the bidder. Animazement collects no commissions and merely facilitates the transaction. Artists, who are not present after the buyer pays for their artwork, will be mailed any monies they are due, less a two-dollar handling fee. Special arrangements may be made with the Art Room Director.

13. All prints should be labeled as such on the bidding sheets. The artist should specify if the print is unlimited or, if it is limited, the number of the print.

14. All payments must be made in cash.

15. All claims must be submitted in writing with original signature within 30 days of the close of the convention.

16. All space is sold in full units only. Space for bid sheets must be included when calculating space requirements.

17. All artwork is automatically entered into the Art Competition. Entries may be divided into divisions at the discretion of Animazement.

18. All art going to the live auction will be digitally photographed for presentation during that auction. All digital photographs taken of the art will be destroyed immediately following the auction. This is to present the best possible image of the piece in the large auction room. If you do not agree to this rule, you may not sell pieces at Animazement.
