Karaoke Rules

Are you interested in our Karaoke Contest? Please familiarize yourself with the following rules!

  1. Karaoke signup will begin Thursday night at the Pre-Con and will be available until Friday at 5 pm. Signup sheets will be available at the Information Desk.
  2. When you sign up, you are required to give the name you are going to perform under and the title of the song. You can also give the song's original artist and the origin (game, show, etc.) of the song .
    Note: For groups that wish to sing together, you are allowed 1 entry for the entire group.
  3. Contestants will be selected by random drawing, and your singing order will be posted one hour before the event.
  4. You are responsible for providing any music during the competition. Animazement does not provide music for karaoke.
  5. No more than 2 people will be allowed to perform the same song.
  6. All music must be related to Japanese culture. Music from Japanese anime, culture, and video games are all OK. We reserve the right to deny any song from being performed in we feel it does not fit the convention's theme.

Competition Rules

  1. Lineup for karaoke performance will start 15 minutes before the start of the karaoke block outside auditorium.
    You will be presented a number upon your arrival to show your place in the lineup.
  2. You must have a valid/paid Animazement badge to perform.
  3. You must bring your music burned onto an audio CD.  Your song must be the only track on the CD.  No mp3, no wma, no exceptions.
  4. All performances are limited to 3 minutes. The music will be faded out after that time.
  5. Due to time and space restrictions, live instruments will not be allowed at the event.
  6. No flash effects, fake blood, spewing liquids, etc.
  7. Any use of onstage props must be approved by event staff before your performance.
  8. We reserve the right to disqualify an entrant or stop a performance if we feel it has become inappropriate.

Prizes & Awards

  1. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the competition.
  2. Contestants must be present when prizes are awarded to receive their prize.

Forbidden Songs

While the DJs encourage everyone to be comfortable in what they are singing, there are some songs that have been overdone and and are played out!

  • Pokemon Theme – (English)
  • Simple & Clean – Utada Hikaru/Kingdom Hearts (In ANY Language)
  • Vanilla - Gackt
