Karaoke Rules

Are you interested in our Karaoke Contest? Please familiarize yourself with the following rules!

  1. Karaoke signup will begin Thursday night at the Pre-Con Karaoke event. You may sign up at any time during that event on Thursday. Signup will continue on Friday, from 8:30am until 5:30pm. Signup sheets will be available at the Karaoke Contest Signup Table, located outside of Con Ops.
  2. When you sign up, you are required to give the name you are going to perform under and the title of the song. You can also give the song's original artist and the origin (game, show, etc.) of the song. Once you are signed up, you are signed up--no revisions will be allowed.
    Note: For groups that wish to sing together, you are allowed 1 entry for the entire group.
  3. You must bring your music with you, burned onto an audio CD, when you sign up. Your song must be the only track on the CD.  We cannot accept music on your iPod or other mp3 player, flash drives, etc.
  4. Contestants will be selected by random drawing.  The contestant list and singing order will be posted one hour before the event, at the Karaoke Contest Signup Table, located outside of Con Ops.
  5. No more than 2 people will be allowed to perform the same song.
  6. All music must be related to Japanese culture. Music from Japanese anime, culture, and video games are all OK. We reserve the right to deny any song from being performed in we feel it does not fit the convention's theme.

Competition Rules

  1. Lineup for contestants performing in the Karaoke Contest will begin 15 minutes before the start of the contest. Contestants are to meet at the Karaoke Contest Signup Table, located outside of Con Ops, by 7:10pm.
    You will be given a number upon your arrival to show your place in the lineup.
  2. You must have a valid, paid Animazement badge to perform.
  3. All performances are limited to 3 minutes. The music will be faded out after that time.
  4. Due to time and space restrictions, live instruments will not be allowed at the event.
  5. No flash effects, fake blood, spewing liquids, etc.
  6. Any use of onstage props must be approved by event staff before your performance.
  7. We reserve the right to disqualify an entrant or stop a performance if we feel it has become inappropriate.  Removal of clothing, jumping from the stage, damaging equipment, etc. will result in immediate disqualification.

Prizes & Awards

  1. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the competition.
  2. Contestants must be present when prizes are awarded in order to receive their prize.

Forbidden Songs

While the DJs encourage everyone to be comfortable in what they are singing, there are some songs that have been overdone and and are played out!

  • Pokemon Theme – (English)
  • Simple & Clean – Utada Hikaru/Kingdom Hearts (In ANY Language)
